Fashion and Music Extravaganza Promotes Human Rights for Youth

Yuka Kawahito & Michael Cory Davis are presented YHRI awards by President Mary Shuttleworth Cassandra Hepburn takes action to raise awareness about human rights

LOS ANGELES— Human rights were the focus of a lively fashion and music show featuring the collections of five Los Angeles designers, modeled by aspiring young models and actors. The event was spearheaded by actress Cassandra Hepburn, who decided to take action to raise awareness about human rights after attending a recent Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) event. “I decided to produce this event and raise funds for human rights so as to get this valuable message out to others.”

Youth for Human Rights awards were presented for valuable contributions in raising awareness about human trafficking. Those awarded were film director Michael Cory Davis, for his two compelling short films about sex trafficking, and Yuka Kawahito, an international student from Japan. The Los Angeles design collections featured were Thomas DeVette Fashion, the Mark Gray T-shirt Collection, Terry K Jewelry Collection, Fifi Leroux Collection and True Custom Collection.

Event partners included Youth for Human Rights International, Kids on Stage for a Better World and the Santa Clarita School of Performing Arts. The Curtis Murphy Syndicate rock/pop band and Kids on Stage performed. Held at the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre Pavilion on April 14th, the event enlightened and entertained 500 attendees.

Mary Shuttleworth, President of Youth for Human Rights International, explained the importance of teaching youth and adults human rights and stated, “Youth for Human Rights greatly appreciates the support shown today. It is community efforts such as this that can truly bring change, and that change starts with helping the children of this world.”
