California Association of Students Council Takes on Human Rights

March 16, 2008

Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) spokesperson, Tracie Morrow, presents a human rights lesson.

Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) spokesperson, Tracie Morrow, and YHRI’s Youth President, Trisha Curry delivered human rights lessons to students at the Youth Action Summit of the California Association of Students Council (CASC). www.casc.net.

They came on the invitation of Dr. June Thompson, Executive Director of CASC, the more than 60-year-old non-profit whose mission is to develop skilled leaders. CASC does this through focusing on peer-training of students and advisors to foster self-esteem and build citizenship.

The Youth Action Summit was organized by youth for youth. The majority of the members of CASC are High School seniors or College students.

The students attending chose topics of interest which they researched and then laid out actions to forward those interests. The most popular topic was human rights. Here Morrow briefed the students about key human rights issues including human trafficking, child soldiers and discrimination. Curry then went over what they could do to change these conditions and the students worked out action plans for their return home.
